A Lanarkshire cheer squad are on the hunt for sponsors to help them jet out for a competition in America.
SLS Cheer and Dance, based in Rutherglen, offer classes in both competitive and recreational styles.
The senior hip hop team, Fury, and the junior cheer team, Cherish, are appealing for help in getting to Orlando, Florida, in May 2023, for the Allstar World Championship.
Head coach Claire Senior told Lanarkshire Live : “This is a dream come true for us and something we never thought would happen.
"To have the opportunity to compete in the USA where cheerleading is so huge is amazing.
“We have completed tryouts and our teams have been selected and are ready to start the hard work in preparation for this huge event next year.
“Our girls are so excited to compete overseas and cannot wait to work really hard to ensure they put on a great performance and hold their own out there against many other teams.
“As coaches also this is a dream come true for us. We’ve all worked really hard to progress over the years, and it has been tough, but we are overjoyed that the hard work has paid off.
“To get to America is extremely expensive for all involved and a huge commitment. We will be doing as much fundraising as possible to help towards costs and training while we are in the states.
“Our parents are working together on different fundraising ideas to help raise funds. A few things we will be looking to do will be backpacking, party nights, football cards, bonus balls as well.
“We are looking for any sponsors to help us get some team training kits, so we all look the part out there.
“Any sponsor/donation would be wonderful and greatly appreciated as we have a lot to consider during the trip with things such as gym hire for training, transport, training kits and entry fees.
“Our whole team this year has been extremely successful and worked so hard to improve.
“Covid really was such a setback, but now we feel we are back on track working towards more successes.”
SLS was originally set up as a lunchtime school club in 2006 at Stonelaw High in Rutherglen.
The group expanded over the years and SLS now runs 28 classes per week and trains in their own gym.
During the 2021-2022 season, they had 16 competitive teams, their highest number yet.
Participants age from 18 months up to adults.
