Lanarkshire charity supporter goes running up that hill

The son of a Blantyre Haven service-user has raised over £880 in aid of the charity, as a thank you for their years of support.

Ian Gilmour recently took part in the Wild Deer Triathlon in the Lake District, raising an incredible £882 of donations to support the Lanarkshire charity, who help people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families

Ian was inspired to raise funds for The Haven as his mother has a health condition which significantly impacts her daily life.

His family has first-hand experience of the positive effect Haven services has on individuals, carers and relatives of those living with life-limiting or long-standing conditions.

The 27-year-old told Lanarkshire Live : “My mum has had Multiple Sclerosis for over 27 years and, although her mobility is poor, it would have been much worse without the support of The Haven.

"Every day, this incredible charity supports those with debilitating conditions through various support services."

Finishing at a very respectable one hour and 41 minutes, Ian travelled to Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, to participate in a range of triathlon activities including swimming, cycling and running.

"I'm not a strong swimmer, cyclist or runner, so the last few months involved some gruelling training. As gruelling as it was, it's nothing compared to the suffering the users experience every day."

Paul Hayward, campaigns and communications ffficer for The Haven, said: “It’s with the support of people like, Ian, that The Haven can continue to provide vital support to individuals and families in our local communities.

"The Haven would like to thank, Ian, and those who donated, for their participation, dedication and selfless generosity."

The Haven Nurses and Wellbeing Practitioners provide practical and emotional support, to help alleviate physical and emotional distress through wellbeing sessions, activity groups and video support calls to adults and young people.

"The charity also provides information and support at all stages of illness, including bereavement support, and by supporting clients and their families to live life positively with hope.
