A Lanarkshire charity has marked three decades of helping the elderly with a special celebration.
The Lightburn Elderly Association Project started up in 1992 with the aim of providing services for older people in the local area.
The Cambuslang based group have since grown to serve more than 8,500 members and clients in 18 communities across all of Lanarkshire, from fun leisure ideas to handyperson services and befriending initiatives that offer a chat to people on their own.
Now the charity has met up to celebrate at their AGM - which was also the first in person meeting for members since before the coronavirus pandemic struck.
More than 100 people attended the event – the charity’s first large-scale public event since 2019 – to hear how the charity had fared since restrictions had started to lift.
At the event, the charity also awarded Marion Reid and Caroline Fraser joint winners of their Betty Lees Volunteer of the Year trophy for the contributions over many years.
The charity’s R:evolve Recycle team also recognised volunteers Lorna Campbell, Helen Chambers and Bernie Green for their efforts in 2022, and presented Isabel Banks, the charity’s secretary with a bouquet to mark her 30 years’ service to LEAP.
LEAP was also given its third Investing in Volunteers Award by Katy Penman from Volunteer Scotland before entertainment on the day was provided by well-known DJ Dave Marshall, whose “Yesterday Once More” presentation was well received.
Over their three decades the charity and its volunteers has been recognised on many times, including being awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2010, the equivalent of an honour given to organisations.
