Lanarkshire care worker lights up home in annual festive fundraiser

A Lanarkshire care worker is once again lighting up her home this Christmas for charity.

With tremendous support from friends and family - who donned her East Kilbride home in colourful festive decorations - Ruth Moore is raising cash for East Kilbride Dementia Carers.

Ruth has decorated her home for more than 10 years now - a tradition started in memory of her late father, who always used to deck their home with all things festive in time for her birthday at the beginning of December.

Over the years Ruth and her supporters have raised over £10,000 for a whole host of charities and local good causes.

And she recently received an Early Day Motion (EDM) for her outstanding efforts from MP Dr Lisa Cameron.

Ruth, 50, who has been battling Long-Covid since contracting the virus in October 2020 - along with several family members, wants to to raise as much as she can this year.

The mum-of-three told Lanarkshire Live : "I personally want to thank Keida Mackenzie and Steph Ferrans for all their help putting the Christmas decorations up for me as I am not fit enough to do it myself, along with my husband James, who has been a massive help.

"I chose EK Dementia Carers for a second time as, through my work, I know what a fantastic job they do and during lockdown they couldn't do any fundraising. Their day centre is also amazing.

"I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me once again this year and hopefully I can raise as much as possible for the charity."

Ruth would like to thank Hester and Lalli undertakers who provided selection boxes to hand out and a raffle prize, Village Music, Julie's Nails and Sun Studio, Artisan Buongiorno Bakers, Dee's Hair, Southside Foods, The Montgomerie Arms, Bombshell Beauty, Rangoli Indian restaurant and the Co-op.

To donate go to Ruth's fundraising page or pop by the house in Bosfield Place in EK to make a donation in a bucket outside the property. The lights will be on from 5-8pm from December 2 to 28.
