Lanarkshire care home hosts jubilee street party for residents

A Lanarkshire care home celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style with a spectacular street party.

Rutherglen Care Home held the event for residents and staff last Saturday (June 4), celebrating the Queen’s 70 years at the throne.

The day was a cracking success for all those who organised and attended the event.

Maureen Thomson from the home told Lanarkshire Live : “We had a fantastic afternoon for our Jubilee Street Party.

"It was great to see residents and families getting together and enjoying the sunshine, refreshments and entertainment.

“We chose to have a street party for the Royal Jubilee as this was the ideal opportunity for residents and families to get together with less restrictions on being outdoors.

“All the residents who wished to participate came along either with staff or family members.

“Entertainment was supplied by singer Suzie G, who did an hour-long set which had everyone singing and dancing.

“Boogie Box Jive dancers showed off their dancing skills as well, with a rock ‘n’ roll jive demo which brought back memories of dance hall days for some of our residents.

“We choose the dancers as the Queen was crowned in the 50s and the jive is a 50s dance. The party started at 2pm till 4pm.”

Cycling Without Age provided trishaw rides for residents as well, which the home is currently fundraising money for to buy their own.
