The work of a Lanarkshire Boys’ Brigade company has been recognised at Westminster.
Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows tabled an early day motion in the House of Commons to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 2nd Cambusnethan Boys’ Brigade Company.
Mrs Fellows recognised the opportunity the BB’s provides local boys to get involved in their communities, learn skills and make new friends.
Her motion also praised Brigade staff on their work to support people in Wishaw and surrounding areas during this difficult year.
The Boys’ Brigade was the first voluntary uniformed youth movement in the world, having been formed in Glasgow in 1883.
The local Company was founded on 12 November 1951 to provide young people opportunities to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment which is rooted in the Christian faith.
Mrs Fellows met last week with 2nd Cambusnethan Company Captain, Ewan Lannigan, to discuss recent developments in the Boys’ Brigade, the affect the pandemic has had on their work and their aspirations locally.
She also presented him with a copy of the Early Day Motion.
She told Lanarkshire Live : “I’m a great supporter of the Boys’ Brigade, it offers huge opportunities to young men from all backgrounds.
“Both my sons were members and it taught them so much over the years and got them involved in an array of activities, such as; community service, quizzing and hiking – some of these pursuits they carry on to this day.
“I have continued my connection to the Brigade in my Parliamentary work through my role as vice chairwoman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Boys’ Brigade.”
