Lanarkshire boyfriend who accused police officer ex of being porn actress given contact ban

A boyfriend has been banned from approaching his police officer ex for ten years after a campaign of intimidation.

Jonathan Barclay, from East Kilbride, accused the experienced officer of moonlighting as an adult actress - a claim which she refuted in court.

The 37-year-old said he would inform Police Scotland bosses and the media if she did not give him back a hoover.

He also hounded his ex-partner with messages and emails after their split, telling her how much he loved her and wanted her back.

He had initially denied engaging in a course of conduct which was abusive of his ex-partner.

Prosecutors claimed he attended her and her mother’s home uninvited, bombarded them with messages, repeatedly made phone calls and messaged them after being asked not to.

He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of repeatedly sending messages - and threatening to report her to her bosses over the false pornography claims.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court this week, he was told to carry out 190 hours’ unpaid work as part of an 18-month community payback order and was placed on a 10-year non-harassment order, banning him from approaching or contacting the officer.

Defence solicitor Gary Miller told Sheriff Andrew McIntyre that Barclay accepted full responsibility for the offence, and recognised how serious it is.

Giving evidence in the trial, the officer, from Lanarkshire, said Barclay accused her of being an adult actress, claiming she had fetish accounts on Instagram and x-rated site Only Fans.

And she said she had to take time off her work due to the impact on her mental health of these claims.

She explained: “These were allegations of things that are absolutely not true at all. I just wanted left alone to get on with my life.

“It got to the stage I was off work sick because I just got so stressed with it all. I was off work for about seven weeks.”

He also described her as “the woman of my dreams” and said “I had love for you at the first sight” in another message.

He regularly sent her poems and love songs in a bid to win her back, including a link to the YouTube video for Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You .
