Lanarkshire beauty spot makes top 10 of most stunning waterfalls in the UK

A Lanarkshire beauty spot has been named as one of the UK's 10 most stunning waterfalls.

The popular Falls of Clyde in Lanark was one of only two Scottish locations to make the cut in research carried out by the Finest Filters team.

They pulled together a complete list of waterfalls located in the UK and, by counting the associated number of hashtags on Instagram, determined which were the most picturesque of all.

The Falls of Clyde proved to be the ninth most popular waterfall in the UK according to Instagram with 8817 hashtags.

Meanwhile, sitting top of the pile with a whopping 96,922 hashtags was the Fairy Pools in Glenbrittle on the Isle of Skye.

Located within the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, the Falls of Clyde reserve encompasses four waterfalls - Bonnington Linn, Corra Linn, Dundaff Linn, and Stonebyres Linn.

The reserve is home to some fascinating wildlife, including otters, more than 100 species of birds - including ravens and kingfishers - and badger watching experiences available after dark.

Locals visiting Scotland’s National Gallery, may recognise the Corra Linn from Turner’s painting The Falls of Clyde, which hangs in the gallery, immortalising the falls’ outstanding natural beauty.

The beauty spot can be found by parking up in the New Lanark village car park, passing the New Lanark visitor centre on the right, then continuing until reaching the Falls of Clyde visitor centre, where the hike up to the falls begins.

Marketing director at Finest Filters, Adam Green, commented: “If there’s one thing the last two years have taught us, it’s how important spending time out in nature is for our health and wellbeing, and that we shouldn’t take it for granted.

“As spring comes in and the weather warms up, now is the perfect time to head out and see what the great outdoors has to offer.

"These results really showcase the diverse and natural beauty we have in the UK, and really shows us how lucky we are to live amongst such stunning natural wonders.

“As we leave a cold winter behind and spring gathers momentum, now is a great time for the UK public to head out and experience some of the UK’s greatest hidden treasures.”
