Lanarkshire area to benefit from new neighbourhood watch scheme

A new neighbourhood watch has been set up in part of Lanarkshire.

Community councillor Barry Cathie decided to set up the group for the Cathkin area, in Rutherglen, after continual reports of people feeling unsafe in the area, trouble with youths and complaints about speeding motorists.

It is hoped the new group will be able to make a difference at a local level and work with police in the region on any problems.

Mr Cathie told Lanarkshire Live : "I'm wanting to get as many cathkin residents to join the neighbourhood watch and to keep in touch with me about local issues.

"I'll be working closely with the local community police and the local elected members and other relevant agencies.

"I'm a dedicated community activist and I am willing to do whatever it takes to make my community a more safer and positive place to not only live but to work in as well."

Mr Cathie added that he had several reports of various issues in the area and believes the new scheme can make a difference.

He added: "Issues such as dog fouling, speeding motorists and youth disorder have became a real problem recently and we as a community should pull together and combat these issues by working together and reporting any issues or concerns to the police, the council and myself to keep it a safer community for all."

Earlier this year we told of Mr Cathie's frustration with an increasing amount of speeding drivers, which caused a danger to pedestrians there.

Local residents can contact Barry by emailing barrycathie01@gmail.com for more details about the scheme.
