Lanark residents warned of a travel disruption ahead of major road closure

Lanark residents are being urged to plan ahead as a major road is set to close for five days.

A section of the A73 between Braidwood and Lanark will close for essential repairs from February 28 at 7am until March 4 at 6pm, and locals are being asked to take note of the closure.

The works form part of the significant investment which is being made in the area, costing £130,000.

Councillor John Anderson, chairman of the community and enterprise resources committee, said: “We are aware of the disruption these works will cause but in order to carry out these improvements safely and as quickly as possible it is unfortunately essential that we close this stretch of the A73.

“We urge all drivers to use the diversion route which will be clearly signposted during these essential repairs.

“We hope, once the work has been completed, that the long-term benefits will be appreciated by all road users in the area.

“Your patience and understanding during the short term period of this unavoidable inconvenience is much appreciated.”

A signed diversion route will be in place and drivers are advised that no vehicles will be able to park or drive through the section of the road while the work is being conducted.
