Lanark Amateur Swimming Club starlets Katie Towers and Millie McArthur both took gold for the club at the West District Sprint and Relay Championships at Tollcross ISC in Glasgow.
The duo were part of an eight-strong team from the club who took part, with Lanark taking five medals in total and setting a host of new personal bests.
The event was the swimmers’ first competition of the new season and Katie, Millie, Abbie Barnstaple, Craig Shaw, Ross Carswell, Ian Henderson, Cameron Bruce and Benji Jones produced 17 PBs between them.
Katie, 14, had an excellent weekend, reaching all five finals. She won the 50m freestyle and finished second in the 50m breaststroke.
Sixteen-year-old Millie picked up a gold and two bronze medals, winning the 50m freestyle and finishing third in both the 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley.
Her 50m freestyle time of 28.36 was a new club record, shaving 0.17 seconds off Robyn Patrick’s previous mark.
Abbie Barnstaple reached two finals, Craig Shaw got to three, while Ian Henderson and Benji Jones made one.
After the meet, coach Karen Kelly said: “All eight swimmers swam well. Katie and Millie have battled a bit recently with illness, and have shown great resilience in training and reaped their just rewards.
“The sprint meet is very early in the season and is always a challenge which all the swimmers embraced.”
