Lana Del Rey booed as star over 30 minutes late for Glastonbury headline set

Lana Del Rey tested the patience of her fans beyond their limits as she was late to take to the stage at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival - sparking a wave of boos.

The 38-year-old chart topping star had been due to appear on The Other Stage at 10:30pm at the annual music festival - with a huge crowd desperately awaiting her arrival.

But as the minutes ticked past half past the hour, fans became increasingly unhappy as the Summertime Sadness singer failed to materialise.

It was over half an hour before she managed to make it to the stage to begin her set - with fans booing the singer over her lateness, and others complaining she had taken too long to appear.

Speaking to The Mirror, one furious fan explained they were contemplating walking away after waiting for their idol to appear for more than 30 minutes.

They said: “This is messing up everyone's evening plans as there are other late night acts to see after her!"

Loud boos could be heard echoing around the audience as they waited for the star to arrive and their patience wore out.

Others feared the singer wouldn't appear at all - as she had threatened to pull out of Glastonbury altogether earlier in the year when the line-up was revealed.

A backlash had been sparked as there were no female headliners on the main stage - with Lana herself fuming online that her headline slot on the Other Stage hadn't been publicised when the line-up was first announced.

Speaking to the Mirror in the crowd as they waited for Lana to grace the stage with her presence, one festival goer told the Mirror they feared the Born to Die singer was bailing on her set.

Following Lana’s comments earlier this year about her position on the Glastonbury poster, the fan feared the star was “boycotting and sat at home.”

Another added: “She’s not even got a line-up set time for a headliner anyway, she can’t be this late for someone with such a short set.

“The Guns ‘N’ Roses weren’t even this late and they’re known for being late!”

One fan threatened to leave if Lana didn’t make an appearance “in the next five minutes”.

Things got worse for Lana when the chord was cut for her mic and the screens on stage were switched off as she went over her allotted time slot due to her late start.

Devastated fans were left gobsmacked when her set was abruptly cut short - with her microphone being turned off, as well as the stage ligths.

Boos flew up again as fans realised the singers time was up - even though she was only about halfway through her set.

One fan blasted the entire performance, raging: "I am so gutted. She was supposed to be one of the main highlights of the weekend but she appeared late and was cut off short."

The singer appeared to refuse to leave the stage after the power was stopped for her performance.

Back in March, Lana had hinted she might not take up her slot at the festival following a backlash over the white male dominated line-up.

Music fans were left angered and disappointed when Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses and Sir Elton John were revealed to be the headlined performers for the weekend.

Reacting to the news, Lana had hinted she might pull out of the event, tweeting at the time: “Well, I’m actually headlining the 2nd stage. But since there was no consideration for announcing that we’ll see.”

Festival organiser Emily Eavis had defended the decision to have an all male main line-up.

She pleaded to the Guardian back in March: "We’re trying our best so the pipeline needs to be developed. This starts way back with the record companies, radio. I can shout as loud as I like but we need to get everyone on board."

She continued to say Glastonbury is "entirely focused on balancing [our] bill" in terms of gender but "every aspect of diversity".
