Lamorne Morris' pool features lush greenery, light patio furniture, and blue tiles for a Mediterranean style that is easy to recreate

The next best thing to a Mediterranean vacation is a Mediterranean-style home, and what better place to implement a holiday-inspired aesthetic than a backyard pool?

We're taking cues from Lamorne Morris, who just took home an Emmy for his role in Fargo. The actor shared a clip of his Mediterranean-style pool on his Instagram page, and we were immediately drawn to its vacation-worthy ambiance.

The cement perimeter is surrounded by lush greenery, luxe patio furniture, and stone steps, proving that materials are key to making a pool feel like a relaxing escape. According to experts, the inside of a pool is just as important as its surrounding accessories, so extra attention should be paid to tiling when considering pool ideas.

'To create a pool that transports people to the heart of the Mediterranean, it’s essential to choose a design as well as materials that evoke the serenity and rustic beauty of the region,' interior designer Luisina Marchiori says.

'I recommend using large porcelain tiles with a stone effect to edge and surround the pool, and turquoise blue tiles for its interior. This will create an eye-catching contrast and mimic the Mediterranean Sea lapping against the sandy beaches and rocky coves. Complemented with light-colored ceramics with sandy hues around the pool, natural daylight will reflect into the water, making it appear clear and calm.'

A steady declining ramp or set of steps into the pool also contributes to the overall feeling of being in a natural body of water.

'For the design, I recommend wide platform-style steps to create a soft slope, recreating the experience of gradually gliding into the ocean from the beach, which will enhance both the aesthetic and the overall experience,' she says.

Plants and greenery are another essential aspect of making a backyard pool feel vacation-worthy.

'Surrounding the pool with an abundance of lush vegetation, such as palms of various heights, adds a refreshing and natural ambiance, turning the space into a vibrant oasism' she explains. 'The use of stone also plays a key role. Whether used in the pool’s structure or incorporated through decorative elements like weathered or rustic stone pots, it adds a timeless, natural touch that complements the Mediterranean feel.'

The juxtaposition of stone and grass in Morrison's backyard is truly the best of both worlds.

We recommend placing plants in terracotta planters for an optimal vacation feel, as this material is reminiscent of the Mediterranean, and implementing white and cream patio furniture for a resort atmosphere.
