The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europa wrapped for the PRO and PRO/AM classes with an action-packed Race 2 at Jerez de la Frontera, with the two titles going to Amaury Bonduel and Bronek Formanek/Stefan Rosina.
At the roll-away, Kyrgyzstan’s Egor Orudzhev (ART-Line) got off to a great start, with Sweden’s Oliver Soderstrom and Italy’s Leonardo Caglioni slotting into the other top 3 positions, while Bonduel started to get a bit frustrated as he tried not to lose contact with the leading trio, aware that finishing behind Söderström would mean losing the title.
Luckily for him, the Target Racing driver threw away every chance he had by returning to the pits shortly before the pit-lane window opened and had to be waved through by his crew for another lap, only to receive the inevitable penalty.
The pitstop moment was very tense as shortly before the field started to come in, a contact between Lefterov and Spinkiewicz saw the Uniq Racing driver beached in the sand at turn 2, causing the Safety Car to come out. That was on lap 14 when everyone had already stopped, but with the leaders left behind a small group of lapped cars it obviously gave rise to some rather interesting brawls and a reshuffle of the race order.
Orudzhev, back in front but under pressure from Enzo Geraci and Bonduel, was unable to extend his lead, but the Safety Car returned to the track on lap 18 when Lucas Papin (Schumacher CLRT) got stranded in the sand at turn 11; at this point those who had nothing to do with the fight for the overall podium were forced to bunch up again and on the restart (with six and a half minutes remaining on the clock) Orudzhev finally had the green light.
Shortly after, however, Guido Luchetti crashed disastrously at turn 7 and with barriers to repair plus debris to collect, the red flags came out to sanction the end of the race, to the joy not only of Orudzhev, but also of the other category champions.
The ART-Line driver won from Geraci/Caglioni (Oregon Team) and Bonduel only needed a podium to take the title, while Hampus Eriksson (Target Racing) and Dimitrov/Maloigne (Iron Lynx) completed the Top 5, followed by Testa/Di Fabio (DL Racing).
Largim Ali tried to climb back up the field after Soderstrom's mistake, but was unable to go any higher than P7, despite a forceful overtaking move on Bostandjiev/Lefterov (Iron Lynx) in the final stages.
Inside the Top 10 there were also the other DL Racing cars, in the hands of Segù/Fontana and Ibrahim Badawy.
There was no shortage of action either in the PRO/AM Class, starting with a black flag for Gilardoni/Perolini (VSR) in the second part for not having served a penalty, just when the pair had taken the lead.
Among the various changes at the top, their teammates Frassineti/Zanon took advantage to beat Clementi Pisani/Liberati (Forte Racing) and Au/Schandorff (Target Racing).
Formanek/Rosina only needed to administer the situation to allow the title to go to Micanek Motorsport, by finishing eighth in the category, just behind their direct rivals Meyuhas/Kuppens (Boutsen VDS).
