Lambeth: Murder charge after 56-year-old died following assault

A man has been charged with murder following the death of 56-year-old Shane McEvoy in February.

Officers were called to reports of an unresponsive man at a property in Durham Street, Lambeth shortly after 3.47pm on February 15.

After arriving at the scene, emergency service workers administered first aid to Mr McEvoy before taking him to a south London Hospital. He died a short time later.

A post-mortem on February 17 was inconclusive but did reveal that Mr McEvoy’s injuries were consistent with an assault.

On Thursday, Dedan Simmons, 39, of Clapham Road, was charged with murder.

Simmons is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

An investigation by detectives from the Specialist Crime Command is still ongoing.
