Lamb found in car with 'drugs worth £10,000' on Scots motorway

A lamb was found in the back of a car on a Scots motorway alongside "roughly £10,000 worth of Class A drugs".

The baffling discovery was made around 6.10pm on Saturday when police stopped a vehicle on the M74 northbound carriageway, near junction three in Glasgow.

Police Dog Billy was "instrumental" in sniffing out the lamb - found next to a bag of chips - and indicated drugs were present in the motor during a search of the vehicle.

Officers recovered heroin, with an estimated street value of £7,000 and cocaine, worth an estimated value of £3,000.

Two men, aged 52 and 53, and one woman, aged 38, were arrested and charged with drugs offences. They have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

The lamb has now been re-homed by a local farmer and enquiries are ongoing to establish how it ended up in the motor.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers in Glasgow have seized drugs with a potential value of £10,000 from a vehicle on the M74 northbound. Around 6.10pm on Saturday, 22 April, 2023, officers stopped a car on the M74 northbound carriageway, near J3.

"The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and a search of the car was carried out with assistance from the Dog Unit. PD Billy entered the car and indicated drugs were present.

"Officers recovered heroin, with an estimated street value of £7,000 and cocaine, worth an estimated value of £3,000.

"Two men, aged 52 and 53 and one woman, aged 38, were arrested and charged with drugs offences. They have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal."

Road policing colleagues posted about the incident on social media, sharing a photo of the lamb and a positive drug test.

They said: "Oh ewe! Officers from #GlasgowRP stopped this vehicle (not a Lamborghini!) on the #M74 J3 NB yesterday.

"In addition to this wee fella roughly £10k in Class A drugs were recovered with assistance from @PSOSDogs. Driver further arrested for failing the roadside swap for cocaine.

"The lamb has been taken in by a local farmer and enquiries are continuing to establish how the lamb ended up in the car. #PDBilly was instrumental in finding the drugs in this car. @psosdogs"
