Lamar Jackson was caught off guard during meeting with Bill Belichick and Patriots

Lamar Jackson is seeking a trade - and a potential move to the New England Patriots has been raised.

Jackson released a statement last month outlining his desire to leave the Baltimore Ravens. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft unintentionally sparked rumours of a move to his franchise by telling a small group of reporters that his close friend, rapper Meek Mill, had texted him claiming Jackson wanted to play for them.

Ultimatley, a move is unlikely, with ESPN reporting that the Patriots are fully focused on Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe as their two quarterbacks. They have not got Jackson in consideration unless something drastic changes.

The Patriots had their chance to get Jackson back in 2018, when he was picked 32nd overall with the final pick of the first round of the NFL Draft. His selection came after the Patriots had picked running back Sony Michel, but Jackson had been a consideration.

In fact, Jackson met with head coach Bill Belichick, usually known for his steely-eyed, serious demeanor. Jackson was taken by surprise, recalling his meeting with the Patriots head coach to reporters some time later.

"I seen Belichick smile,” Jackson laughed. “Usually when I see him, he's like puzzle-faced, straight-faced.

“When I seen him smile, I was like, 'Dang, you out here?' Like, I told him that. I told him, 'I wasn’t expecting you to be smiling!’”

Whilst Jackson came away with a positive impression of Belichick in their first meeting, it appears unlikely he will be able to link-up with the legendary head coach. His options are somewhat limited with several teams essentially ruling themselves out when quizzed on a potential trade for the 2019 MVP.

Last month, Jackson wrote on Twitter requesting a trade: "I want to first thank you all for all of the love and support you consistently show towards me. All of you are amazing and I appreciate y’all so much. I want you all to know not to believe everything you read about me.

"Let me personally answer your questions in regards to my future plans. As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value.

"Any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the Super Bowl. You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I."
