We started asking ourselves some questions on Sunday night after the Baltimore Ravens were eliminated from the NFL postseason.
Or at least we started to think about what questions should and might be asked about the future.
Could Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken still depart for another job elsewhere?
If so, who would replace him?
Will the Ravens invest in upgrading their receiving corps next season?
But there is one thing we did know, as soon as the final seconds ticked away in the 27-25 loss at the Buffalo Bills: the all too familiar Lamar Jackson postseason narratives will persist.
Those who say he can’t get it done in the playoffs will only feel more emboldened by this result. This chorus, who sing the tired refrain of “Lamar can’t win the big one,” will only play their song louder now.
It may not happen as much this week, as we still have conference title games to discuss instead, but wait until football talking season gets here in the summer.
Once we hit that late July summer lull on the sports calendar when there is little to talk about but the opening of training camp, this will ramp up. Remember, kids, sports networks were only invented for one reason- to broadcast live sporting events.
When there are no games to show, they must remain on the air and fill that time with something. That something is talking heads debate shows.
These shows feed on “takes,” and the “Lamar Jackson can’t get it done when it counts” take is one of their favorites.
I’m just warning you now about what’s inevitably coming.
