Los Angeles Lakers 118, Atlanta Hawks 121 (Q4 02:25)

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Tim Bontemps @TimBontemps
What a dunk by Onyeka Okongwu to convert that alley-oop. He’s been awesome as part of Atlanta’s comeback here in the fourth quarter, and Nate McMillan is playing him over Clint Capela down the stretch. – 3:14 PM
Sarah K. Spencer @sarah_k_spence
This is your regularly scheduled HOLY COW, ONYEKA OKONGWU tweet from me – 3:14 PM

First Lakers double-double for @Malik Monk (30 points, 10 boards). – 3:13 PM
Kamenetzky Brothers @KamBrothers
Among the many reasons LeBron is missed, with AD often getting pulled out high on pick and rolls, there’s absolutely no backline at all for the Lakers. LeBron being the next biggest guy who actually matters could help offset this schematically. AK – 3:12 PM
Scott Kushner @ScottDKushner
I recognize it’s not top of mind but this Lakers-Hawks game is all kinds of fun. – 3:10 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Lakers career high for Monk is up to 30 (he had 36 for Charlotte last year) after his 7th 3.
LAL are struggling to get stops in the 4th, though, and ATL lead 116-113 with 4:20 left. – 3:09 PM
Kyle Goon @kylegoon

didn’t expect okongwu to win that battle against ad for the 50-50 rebound but when he secured it i wasn’t that surprised, either. he’s a force in the paint. – 3:06 PM
Atlanta Hawks PR @HawksPR
Trae Young has notched his NBA-leading 17th 25+ point, 10+ assist double-double of the season. Today marks his 109th career game of 10-or-more assists – the fourth-most such games for a player under the age of 24 in NBA history. – 3:05 PM
Sarah K. Spencer @sarah_k_spence
🚨 The Hawks have taken the lead vs. the Lakers, 107-106, 7:26 to play in the fourth 🚨
Hawks outscoring the Lakers 16-5 to start the fourth.
Deficit reached 11 and then Atlanta kicked it into high gear – 3:04 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
A 16-5 Hawks run in the 4th Q has LAL’s 10-point edge turned into a 107-106 deficit with 7:26 to play.
LAL have missed 11 free throws tonight (12 for 23), one more than ATL (15 of 25). – 3:04 PM
Chris Kirschner @ChrisKirschner
Hawks have erased the Lakers’ 11-point lead in the quarter with a 14-2 run and now lead 107-106. – 3:03 PM
Kyle Goon @kylegoon
Hawks lead on a Lou Williams three. There’s 7:26 left. – 3:03 PM
Allen Sliwa @AllenSliwa
Unreal, just like that, Lakers down 107-106… – 3:03 PM
Kyle Goon @kylegoon
This Atlanta crowd got loud when AD missed his first free throw just now, howling at the prospect of getting free Chik-Fila if he missed both.

How about Malik Monk’s line…27pts 9rebs 5ast (10 of 14 from the field) – 2:58 PM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Justise Winslow is in his back-to-basket bag, Luke Kennard is polishing that invite reel for Cleveland, and Brandon Boston continues to dunk. Borrego decides it is dammit time, has already brought Melo back in, and now calls timeout with 9:20 left.
Clippers lead 93-78. – 2:58 PM

Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
The Hawks hadn’t scored since the 3:20 mark of the 3rd Q, with LAL’s bench going on a 9-0 run.
‘Melo got hit with a technical foul with 4.5 seconds left to stop the run, but LAL take a 101-91 lead out of the period thanks to that push.
LAL still at 61.5% FG’s for the game. – 2:53 PM
Allen Sliwa @AllenSliwa
Good close to the Qtr for the Lakers, up 101-91 going into the 4th… – 2:53 PM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
7-0 run in last minute of third quarter gives Clippers an 84-76 lead entering final quarter of play here in Charlotte.
Only spark Hornets had was during their 8-0 run and whenever Melo attacked. Otherwise, very sleepy performance by a Charlotte team that dropped 158 this week. – 2:52 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Terrific game on offense continues for @Malik Monk, who’s up to 24 points on 9 of 11 FG’s with 5 3’s after a pretty transition layup.
He also has 8 boards and 5 assists in his 26 minutes.
LAL lead 97-90. – 2:49 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
That play where Trae Young jumps into a defender – just called on Johnson – was the one that was being legislated out of the game early this season, to much support.
However, the calls seem to be coming again.
Young’s FTA by month:
Oct: 4.3
Nov: 6.3
Dec: 8.1

Malik Monk up to 22 points. His season-high is 29, for reference. – 2:37 PM
Sarah K. Spencer @sarah_k_spence
Hawks outscoring the Lakers 16-8 to start the second half and have narrowed the deficit to 79-78, 6:45 3Q.
Trae Young’s up to 19 points and seven assists; John Collins has 18 points (9-12 FG) with eight rebounds and three steals. – 2:34 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Davis got whistled for his 3rd and 4th PF’s in the last few possessions, putting LAL in some trouble, with 7:11 still to play in the quarter.
He has 20 points on 8 of 14 FG’s with 4 boards, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal.
LAL lead 79-75. – 2:32 PM
Kyle Goon @kylegoon
Somebody on this team has to rebound. Anthony Davis with a couple extraordinary efforts on defense to get stops, but no one is getting the ball back. Now Davis has four fouls and is the team’s leading scorer with 20 points. – 2:32 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
After 10 straight shots to close the half, LAL come out 2 for 2 in the 3rd, with Johnson and Westbrook connecting from 3.
ATL has 3 FG’s as well, however, so the lead remains at 9. – 2:25 PM
Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
The Lakers’ bench is shooting 9-of-13 from the field and still dragging down the team’s overall field goal percentage. I’d characterize that as a good offensive half. – 2:22 PM
Los Angeles Lakers @Lakers
Malik Monk stays clutch to end the half 🥶 pic.twitter.com/TPvf2iVzaD2:19 PM

John Collins recorded three steals in today’s first half. It’s only the second time in his career Collins has notched 3+ steals in a single half and the first time doing so in a first half. – 2:11 PM

Second quarter got away from the Hawks some as the game got chippy; Lakers end the half on a 10-2 run.
Trae Young: 16 points, 6 assists, 5 turnovers
John Collins: 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals – 2:10 PM
Michael Scotto @MikeAScotto
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu, Rudy Gobert and Robert Williams are the only three NBA players averaging 9+ points and 6+ rebounds while shooting over 70%. Okongwu believes he should be a Rising Stars participant at All-Star Weekend. More below.

Lakers have made 9 straight shots. – 2:07 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Lakers are shooting a ridiculous 69.2% (27 for 39) with AD at 7 for 11 after another smooth hoop, but 11 TO’s have helped keep ATL in range, at 64-60. – 2:06 PM
Kamenetzky Brothers @KamBrothers
If the Lakers can get the lead into double digits, this feels like a game where Trae Young just says “screw it” and gets himself tossed. AK – 2:05 PM
Kyle Goon @kylegoon
Trae Young now has five turnovers and most of them have been travels. – 2:04 PM
Kyle Goon @kylegoon
Russ with an and-one layup. We’ll see if it’s the bucket he needs to get going. He’s been far too passive to start the game, and the Lakers need him to score to have a chance to win today. – 2:01 PM

Lots of offense from both teams here in a 47-46 game (ATL +1).
LAL are shooting 66.7%, and ATL 59.4%. – 1:49 PM
Mike Richman @mikegrich

Hawks shot 58 percent in the quarter, Lakers shot 67 percent but had 6 turnovers – 1:37 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Despite shooting 66.7% (14 of 21, 4 of 7 3’s) in the 1st Q, LAL trail 34-33 after a late 3 from Atlanta, who shot 14 of 24, benefitting from extra possessions created by 6 Lakers TO’s. – 1:36 PM
Atlanta Hawks PR @HawksPR
John Collins tallied 12 points and two steals in today’s first quarter. It’s the first time in his career Collins has notched 12+ points and 2+ steals in a single quarter, while his 12 points ties a season-high for points in a single quarter. – 1:36 PM

All-Star Game-level defense today in the ATL by both the Lakers and Hawks.
I did not say All-Star-level defense. I said All-Star GAME-level defense. – 1:32 PM
Kamenetzky Brothers @KamBrothers
Back to back buckets for Atlanta after Westbrook dribbled himself into trouble, resulting in a turnover, then Bradley missing a layup diving to bail out Russ. Gotta be more precise with his intentions. AK – 1:30 PM
Sarah K. Spencer @sarah_k_spence
Two Trae Young buckets in a row and the Hawks have cut the Lakers’ lead to 24-23.
Young has 4 assists and 4 points.
Right behind him in assists is Clint Capela, who has 3 for the Hawks (to go with five points and three rebounds). – 1:29 PM
Chris Kirschner @ChrisKirschner
De’Andre Hunter has been a wall defensively against Russell Westbrook so far. – 1:27 PM
Kevin Chouinard @KLChouinard
Hawks shifted to a zone defense for a couple of possessions. Gallo subbed for Capela and they got out of it. – 1:27 PM
Rylan Stiles @Rylan_Stiles
John Collins is really good, my favorite part in watching him is his ability to relocate off-ball finding open spots. He has done that so well this afternoon, even being missed a few times. The reported asking price can not be right, he has so much more value. – 1:26 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Malik Monk’s off to a strong start on offense, scoring 8 points on 3 of 3 FG’s, plus 3 boards and 2 assists, including a drop off for AD’s 5th FG as LAL go up 24-18.
Lakers are 10 for 13 (76.9%), though ATL’s getting a number of really good looks as well. – 1:26 PM
Kyle Goon @kylegoon
