Wenyen Gabriel, a young forward whom the Los Angeles Lakers signed to a two-way deal about a month ago, has now agreed to a standard NBA contract to remain with the Purple and Gold.
Via Lakers Nation:
“The Los Angeles Lakers announced that they have signed forward Wenyen Gabriel to a standard NBA contract. The Lakers did not announce the terms of the deal, but it is reported to be a two-year deal with a team option for the 2022-23 season.”
Gabriel, 25, stands 6-foot-9 and has given the team an injection of energy and hustle since joining it.
He is somewhat raw, but he appears to have potential as a rotation player who contributes as a good team defender, 3-point shooter and finisher near the basket.
L.A. has been one of the oldest NBA teams ever this season. This move is a small step, but a step nonetheless in getting younger, something that is an absolute must if it will return to championship contention next year.
