Lakers Have ‘Strong’ Interest in Max Extension for Anthony Davis, per Report

The Lakers’s sights appear to be set on securing their future a bit in the way of star big man Anthony Davis. While LeBron James made it clear that he has no immediate plans to call it a career, Los Angeles continues to build for both the here-and-now as well as the future of the franchise.

In turn, the Lakers reportedly have a “strong” interest in getting a contract extension done with Davis, per Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times.

As Woike reported, current “indications” are that the Lakers are prepared to make a “full three-year offer despite concerns about Davis’ durability.” Davis, who has two years remaining on his current contract, could receive a max extension worth up to $170 million and keep him in Los Angeles through the 2027-28 season.

It’s a wise move for the Lakers, and with Davis currently 30 years old, the obvious expectation is that regardless of what happens with James, the appeal of having him in L.A. could be a driver in negotiations for any future big-name free agents.

Whether or not this deal pans out as expected will be something to monitor in the build-up to the 2023-24 NBA season, but it seems fans can safely expect Davis to be a Laker for the foreseeable future.
