Anthony Davis was reportedly escorted in a wheelchair following a head injury during the Lakers’ Game 5 loss against the Warriors, according to TNT’s Chris Haynes.
Davis took an elbow to the head from Golden State’s Kevon Looney late into the fourth quarter and did not return to the game.
After the loss, head coach Darvin Ham provided an update on Davis’s status, indicating the 30-year-old was “doing really good.”
“He took a shot to the head. He seems to be doing really good already. That’s where he’s at and the status of it right now,” said Ham to reporters, via Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet.
Los Angeles is set to host Game 6 on Friday at the Crypto.com Arena, currently holding onto a 3–2 series lead. Ham didn’t provide any indication as to Davis’s availability for that matchup.
The play occurred in the fourth quarter after D’Angelo Russell made a driving layup. Davis was attempting to follow up on the shot for a potential offensive rebound when Looney swung his elbow around and caught the Lakers’ star right in the side of the head. Davis was removed from the game and taken to the locker room, unable to return.
Ham’s update is certainly a positive one, given the situation, and fans will be hoping Davis is able to recover in time for Friday’s critical tilt.
