Lakers coach Frank Vogel talks about Anthony Davis’ rehab status

It has been more than a month since Los Angeles Lakers superstar big man Anthony Davis sprained his foot during a contest against the Utah Jazz.

His absence has been glaring; L.A. has had to resort to small lineups that are lacking defensively and on the boards without him.

Last week, Davis started on-court shooting drills, and head coach Frank Vogel noted he “had a productive week.”

Now, it appears that the University of Kentucky product is inching further in his rehab and his basketball activities.

According to Vogel, he is “coming along really well” while doing more drills at a somewhat higher intensity.

Two days ago, when the Lakers took on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Davis was seen putting in some work.

If the Lakers will have any hope of doing something in the playoffs, if they actually make the playoffs (obviously a big if right now), Davis will have to return sooner rather than later and play up to his standards.

The fact the team hasn’t given any timetable for his return yet indicates there’s a real chance he may not return before the end of the regular season.

After losing to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, L.A. is in ninth place and is just a half game ahead of the 10th-place New Orleans Pelicans.

The Lakers will play those Pelicans on Sunday on the road.
