Lakers coach Frank Vogel: LeBron deserves MVP consideration

It may be a very disappointing season for the Los Angeles Lakers, but it has been an incredible year for one LeBron James.

Despite being 37 years of age and possessing an insane amount of mileage, he is having one of the greatest seasons of his career, at least statistically.

As a result, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel feels that James should be seriously considered for the regular season MVP award.

Via ESPN:

“He is as deserving for MVP consideration as anybody in the league,” Vogel said after practice Friday. “I know how the voting goes — the team with the best record or top couple of records usually gets most of those considerations, so the win-loss record definitely would probably hurt him.

“But you can’t tell me that anybody has played a better season than LeBron James has this year.”

James’ chances of actually winning the MVP this year are about as high as the chances of Los Angeles being hit by a hurricane this summer.

But it would make sense if he got just a few second or third-place votes, at least some fourth-place votes as validation of his big year.

What James has been doing this season makes one wonder if he may have two or three elite or near-elite years left in him.
