The Los Angeles Lakers may be desperate to trade Russell Westbrook, but he and the team’s two major superstars still want to be successful together.
According to one NBA insider, the three recently talked on the phone together about how to make things work together this coming season.
Via Lakers Daily:
“Amidst all of the uncertainty surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers, the team’s star trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook recently had a phone conversation where they reaffirmed their commitments to one another, vowing to make things work.
“‘The Los Angeles Lakers’ Big 3 of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook huddled up on a phone conversation the first weekend of NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with each expressing their commitment to one another and vowing to make it work, league sources told Yahoo Sports,’ wrote Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.
“‘While the uncertainty of Westbrook’s future with the Lakers remains, the conversation was organized to make sure all three were on the same page as long as they’re joined together in their pursuit of a championship, sources said.'”
James and Westbrook were at a summer league game recently, but the two kept their distance from each other, making for an awkward scene.
This reported phone call is reminiscent of last summer when the three reportedly met in person just prior to Westbrook being traded to L.A. to discuss how a partnership could work.
The guard has also been building a working relationship with new head coach Darvin Ham, reflecting his desire to be successful as a Laker.
After all, Westbrook grew up in the Southland and was a Lakers fan growing up.
