The Los Angeles Lakers have been trying to trade Russell Westbrook going back to January, but to no avail, at least so far.
Their attempts to trade him for Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving were rebuffed, and talks to send him to another team haven’t gone far either.
With each passing day this summer, the possibility of the former league MVP being on L.A.’s roster when training camp starts has increased.
Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday that the Lakers may not have a problem with that.
Via Los Angeles Times:
“Sources say the Lakers are comfortable heading into training camp with Westbrook on their roster, hoping new coach Darvin Ham can unlock increased intensity on defense while another season with James and Davis makes life easier on offense.
“The argument for that, of course, is if the Lakers can’t build into a true contender via trade this month, wait and handle it down the road either through free agency or future trades.”
Some feel that such talk about Westbrook coming from Lakers sources this summer, or Ham complimenting Westbrook, is the team simply making a vain effort at posturing.
