The Los Angeles Lakers hired JJ Redick, former NBA sharpshooter and current podcaster, to be their head coach on June 24. After that, it was slow going as far as filling out his coaching staff.
They haven’t been able to hire a few of their targets, including Terry Stotts, the former Portland Trail Blazers head coach who instead joined the Golden State Warriors. A few days ago, Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks, both of whom also have extensive head coaching experience, did say yes to Redick and the Lakers.
Redick’s staff isn’t quite complete yet, but this weekend, Greg St. Jean, a former assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, was also reportedly added to that cadre.
The Los Angeles Lakers are adding Greg St. Jean as an assistant coach to JJ Redick’s staff, league sources told @hoopshype. He won a championship as part of Frank Vogel’s Lakers staff in 2020 and has since been an assistant coach with Jason Kidd in Dallas and Vogel in Phoenix. pic.twitter.com/HKJvABm3Zy

St. Jean was a player development coach for the Lakers during the 2019-20 season under Vogel when they won it all.
His father, Garry St. Jean, was the head coach of the Sacramento Kings in the 1990s. The elder St. Jean then became the Warriors’ general manager in 1997 and held that role until 2004.
