Lainey Wilson up for Hannah Montana sketch with Miley Cyrus on SNL

Lainey Wilson has said she would love to team up with Miley Cyrus for a Hannah Montana sketch on Saturday Night Live (SNL).

Cyrus shot to fame in the noughties on the Disney Channel series playing a teenager who lived a secret double-life as pop star.

Long before country singer Wilson, 32, got her big break, she earned extra money as a Hannah tribute artist at children’s birthday parties, which she opened up about in her recent Disney Plus documentary Lainey Wilson: Bell Bottom Country.

Wilson came full circle earlier this month when she got to pay tribute to Cyrus at the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony and performed the Hannah Montana theme tune Best Of Both Worlds in front of her “idol” in a true pinch me moment.

Now, the Hang Tight Honey hit-maker says she would love to work with Cyrus and that SNL could fit the bill.

“I would love to do that” she told the Standard. “It’s a dream of mine to do something with Miley and on SNL so if those worlds collided that will be pretty badass.”

“Did you hear that SNL?” she added, putting it officially out into the universe.

In the immediate future, Wilson is gearing up for the release of her fifth album Whirlwind on August 23, which serves as the follow-up to her Grammy Award-winning record Bell Bottom Country, so no pressure!

“I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t feel a little bit of pressure,” she laughed. “We definitely didn’t have as much time to write this record because the pandemic was right before we recorded Bell Bottom Country so I had 300 plus songs to go through to find those twelve, but with this record it was more quality over quantity, like I really had to figure out what did I want to say, what part of my life did I want to share that I’d never shared before and I kind of had to put my blinders on for that.

“It was a little bit of pressure, but I do good under pressure. I enjoyed the process, it was a challenge.”

It has also been confirmed that she will be reprising her role as singer Abby on Paramount Plus series Yellowstone.

Although to-date she has only appeared in four episodes of season five, the character has quickly become a firm fan-favourite.

The cat was officially out of the bag about her return when a US newspaper posted details of an online casting call for extras in a Wilson-centric concert scene.

While she was tight-lipped when asked about it, she said it would “make sense to finish the rest of that story.”

Adding: “What I learned is I like being creative so I could definitely see myself doing more of the acting stuff for sure.”
