Lady of the House announce record label launch with new competition to find female and non-binary talent in Dance music

What began as a book release titled Lady of the House, detailing the stories of trailblazing women in electronic music such as Ultra Nate and Candi Staton, ushered Lady of the House into a full-fledged movement.

Aiming to amplify female and non-binary voices in electronic music, Lady of the House was formed as an empowering female-led music collective, headed by Bristol based promoter and author Leila Mckenzie .

After hosting a series of panels, events, club appearances as well as the launch of the first ever Cultural Exhibition in Bristol on International Women's Day earlier this year in March, Lady of the House are now launching a record label with a hotly anticipated month-long music competition.

The competition will search for four winning tracks by rising female and non-binary talent to label with, where the submissions will be released on their brand new label, with the winners themselves to receive support and a mentoring package to help kickstart their careers.

The winning DJs/producers will also have the opportunity to play at upcoming events on behalf of LoTH throughout the year such as festivals and club events- in addition to releasing further tracks and signing exclusively to the Lady of the House label.

LoTH founder Laila Mckenzie said: “LoTH keeps growing and taking us to the places we dreamed of. This is the next step in its evolution - the equaliser in action.

“There is so much talent, passion and hunger out there, we can not wait to embody it all through the label. It's going to be lots of hard work but the industry really really needs this as does the scene. We have so much support at our side with this.

“Let's make this the final blow here to smash the glass ceiling once and for all in terms of women artists being represented.”

Joining the search for the next big acts in Dance music, will be Lady of the House’s chosen ‘Godmothers’, who have been previously connected to LoTH.

Led by the likes of Brit Dance Act 2022 winner Becky Hill, Radio 1’s Charlie Tee and Jaguar and Defected’s leading lady DJ and producer Sam Divine, they will be working alongside the LoTH team to thoroughly search for superstars on the rise.

Singer Becky Hill said: “Lady of the House is an incredibly exciting step forward for women & non binary people in dance music history.

“As a female that has pushed through the boundaries of sexism in the dance sector for the last 10 years, it’s brilliant to see a support system in place for the newcomers that will progress the scene for the next generation.

“I'm honoured to be named godmother of the label and I cannot wait to see what talent is brought forward through this process.”

Radio 1 DJ Jaguar added: “I love everything that Lady of The House stands for, and it's an honour to lend my ears to help them pick a winner for their new label.

“There's still a huge disparity in female and non-binary producers and this type of label is exactly how we will level the playing field. I can't wait to hear all the music and champion more excellent emerging artists.”

The competition will be closing on June 30th, and all emerging female and non-binary acts can apply by following the Labelworx website by clicking here .
