Lady Gaga to take centre stage in huge Grammy Awards Tony Bennett tribute

Lady Gaga will take centre stage at the upcoming Grammy Awards as she is set to perform a routine dedicated to her regular collaborator, Tony Bennett.

The 36-year-old chart topping star is nominated for a string of awards alongside 95-year-old music legend Tony – who is battling Alzheimer’s which he was diagnosed with in 2016.

The pair worked together previously on an album titled Cheek to Cheek which was released to critical and commercial success in 2014 – with their sequel album, Love For Sale, unleashed in September last year and again winning praise and impressive record sales.

Sunday night’s awards are due to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Lady Gaga being offered a prime spot in the limelight to showcase the music she and Tony have made together.

A source told The Sun: “Gaga’s performance is going to be the biggest moment of the night and it will pay tribute to the brilliance of Tony.

“On stage she will sing Love For Sale, the title track from their last album, which came out last year.

“She will also perform Do I Love You, a song they previously did together.

“When she is singing, photographs of Tony will be beamed up on to the screen behind the stage. They are hoping he will be able to make the ceremony but it’s up in the air right now.”

The star pair are up for five awards at the glitz event, with the source saying that Gaga will take to the stage again to accept the gongs should she and Tony be successful on the night.

While tears have been predicted for Gaga’s performance which is expected to last at least five minutes with organisers hoping that Tony will also attend the ceremony and watch on from the audience.

Their album is up for Album fo the Year, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Non-Classical Album, while they are also nominated for Best Music Video and Record of the Year for their rendition of I Get a Kick Out of You.

Just last weekend Lady Gaga warmed hearts when she took to the stage of the Oscars alongside a frail Liza Minnelli as they introduced the biggest award of the night.

The pair announced who was nominated for and won the Best Picture award – which ultimately went to the Sian Heder directed comedy-drama Coda.

Liza, who was in a wheelchair and is suffering from viral encephalitis – a virus that causes inflammation of the brain – became flustered as she struggled with her cue cards.

However, Gaga was at her side and together they masterfully worked their way through their announcements as an appreciative audience watched on.

The heartwarming moment, however, was overshadowed by the drama of the night that was Will Smith viciously slapping comedian Chris Rock live on stage.

The incident took place after the comedian made a joke about Will’s alopecia-suffering wife, Jada Pinkett, with the King Richard performer storming the stage and beating the fellow A-Lister in retaliation much to the shock of the live audience and those watching via TV.
