Lady Gaga said she wore a bulletproof dress to sing a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Joe Biden’s inauguration.
In an interview with British Vogue published on Tuesday, Gaga, who’s set to play Patrizia Gucci, the wife of Maurizio Gucci (played by Adam Driver) in House of Gucci, spoke about her performance at January’s presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C.
She recalled singing at the inauguration as “one of the proudest days” in her life.
“Like many people in America, I felt a deep fear when Trump was president, and ushering 45 out and 46 in is something I’ll be able to tell my children all about,” she told the outlet.
Gaga further said that she was “singing in a Schiaparelli bulletproof dress” at the ceremony, noting that if she weren’t the artist that she is today, she would’ve been “a combat journalist.”

“That was one of my dreams. When I was at the Capitol, the day before the inauguration, I remember walking around and looking for evidence of the insurrection.”
Michael Gold, a writer for The New York Times, called Gaga’s performance a “culmination of a years-long relationship” with Biden in which the two “have shared the spotlight” in more ways than one.
In the months before the November 2020 election, the singer lobbied for Biden, and he presented her at the Academy Awards in 2016.
Before her performance, Gaga said singing the national anthem at the inauguration was an “honour” and had “great meaning.”
Singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honor. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change—between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning.

Gaga graced the stage at the inauguration prior to Vice President Kamala Harris’ swearing-in. She also sang the national anthem while wearing a navy blue jacket and a princess-style red skirt.
Her platinum blonde hair was styled into what appeared to be crown braids adorned with a black ribbon. On her jacket, she wore a large gold-like brooch of a dove.
House of Gucci is set to be released on November 24.
