Lady Gaga confirms she’s starring with Joaquin Phoenix in Joker sequel Folie à Deux

Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel to Todd Phillips’ Oscar-winning Joker.

The Chromatica star took to Instagram on Thursday evening to post a musical teaser clip of the film titled Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates to Joker: Madness for Two.

The animation of two lovers is set to the backing track of Cheek to Cheek, a song that the A Star is Born actress has famously covered with Tony Bennett.

The 36-year-old revealed in her caption that the flick is due to be released on October 4, 2024.

While her fans still have two whole years to wait, they flocked to social media to share their excitment about her new role.

Gaga fans took to Twitter to express their excitement for the musician and actress taking on the film.

“This is gonna be EPIC!” declared one, followed by a fire and red heart emoji.

“OH MYYYYY GAGA,” exclaimed a second. “I’m so excited I wanna see you already!”

The actress has also been known for taking her roles seriously by way of method acting.

One Tweeter replied with a person acting shocked in a meme, adding: “Gaga’s team when she says she’s going to stay in character even when she’s not filming scenes for Joker 2”.

Gaga is expected to take on the role of Harley Quinn, the Joker’s lover and companion, despite not outrightly confirming her role.

The character of Quinn was first created in the 1990’s Batman: The Animated Series and has gone on to be reprised in DC’s and Warner Bros. Suicide Squad in 2016 and 2021, and Birds of Prey in 2018, played by Margot Robbie.

HBO Max has also carried on Quinn’s legacy with the animated series Harley Quinn with voice actress Kaley Cuoco.

With the first Joker instalment amassing over $1 billion at the box office, and good critique with an 8.4 IMDb rating, the sequel will have a lot to live up to.
