Labour deputy Angela Rayner heckled by climate protesters in Edinburgh Fringe show

A climate protestor has been 'forcefully' flung out of an event at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as Labour Party deputy leader Angela Rayner answered questions.

Around five activists interrupted the Iain Dale: All Talk show at the International Conference Centre during the show at around 5pm today. Security moved in after one of the campaigners allegedly started 'shouting' at the politician and host.

The group stood with banners and began 'heckling' the shadow cabinet member about climate change as she received queries from the audience.

An eyewitness told the Record: "They were taking questions from the audience at the end, then about four or five people stood up with their banner. They were asking what Labour are doing about climate change. They were told to stop interrupting as they were heckling them.

"This went on for a few minutes and as they felt Angela wasn't answering their questions they walked out and left. One guy started shouting and he had to be forcefully pushed out as he wouldn't leave."

Video footage from the event depicts one protestor chanting for a 'new green deal' before they are told to 'sit down' then flung from the venue. The Daily Record has approached the Labour Party and Police Scotland for comment.

Iain Dale's show advertised as an 'incisive insight' show on current affairs with these in-depth interviews featuring audience questions. Guests include Owen Jones, Ruth Davidson, Diane Abbott, Dame Mary Beard, David Starkey, Rory Bremner and Rory Stewart.

Hundreds of thousands of tourists are expected to visit the capital this month as the international festival re-launches for the first time since the Coronavirus pandemic. The month-long event is the world's largest arts festival, with more than 2,500 shows at over 250 venues.
