A SCOTTISH Labour councillor has been charged with assault after a heated altercation in Coatbridge.
Pat Patton, representing the town in North Lanarkshire Council, was campaigning for the now-MP Frank McNally on Wednesday.
However, he was caught up in a protest outside a credit union, where residents upset over council school bus services were airing their frustrations.
He allegedly revved his engine at the protesters, before getting out of his car.
He then walked towards a protester filming the altercation, telling him, "Take your phone away, you've no right to record me."
Patton unsuccessfully attempted to grab the phone from their hands, with the spectator replying: "Yes, I do".
Police Scotland told The Scottish Sun: "Around 7pm on 26 June, 2024, officers received a report of an altercation in Woodside Street, Coatbridge.
"Following inquiries, a 59-year-old old man has been charged in connection with an assault.
"He is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal."
