A local doctor wheeled out by NSW Labor to run in a key Sydney seat has withdrawn his candidacy.
Ryde doctor Francisco Valencia was until Thursday Labor's candidate for the state electorate of Ryde in the upcoming NSW election.
The seat is held by the Liberal Party on an nine-per-cent margin but could come into play due to the retirement of the incumbent, senior minister Victor Dominello.
But Labor is back on the hunt for a suitable contender after it said Dr Valencia had "withdrawn his candidacy" on Thursday.
"The Party will begin the process of selecting a new candidate to run in the seat," a Labor spokesperson said.
AAP was unable to confirm the reason for Dr Valencia's withdrawal.
When announcing him as a candidate on November 20, Opposition Leader Chris Minns said Dr Valencia understood the pressure facing health workers and what NSW needed to do to fix it.
"Francisco has served the local community through his work as a doctor," Mr Minns said at the time.
"Now we want him to serve the community in our parliament."
