LA wildfires: Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal and Anthony Hopkins among heartbroken stars who have lost homes

Paris Hilton, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Mel Gibson, and Billy Crystal are among the celebrities who have lost their homes in the wildfires raging across Los Angeles.

Thousands of firefighters were attempting to contain the original LA fire in Palisades - which has burnt nearly 16,000 acres - and seven other blazes raging through southern California which threaten to destroy more homes and lives as strong winds scatter embers.

The wildfires have seen the city declare a state of emergency, with at least 70,000 people forced to evacuate their homes as the metropolitan area became blanketed in a thick cloud of smoke and ash.

The latest update saw a new fire break out in the Hollywood Hills, threatening a host of tourist sites including the Walk of Fame.

US socialite Hilton said she was "heartbroken beyond words" to see her Malibu home "burn to the ground on live TV" as she watched the news with her family - including her son Phoenix and daughter London whom she shares with husband Carter Reum.

"This home was where we built so many precious memories. It's where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London," she said in a post on Instagram.

"While the loss is overwhelming, I'm holding onto gratitude that my family and pets are safe,” Hilton added.

It comes months after a trailer on the set of her Bad Bitch Academy music video set fire, which saw "so many of my favourite things destroyed", Hilton said at the time.

Meanwhile, actor Crystal, and his wife Janice, have confirmed their home of 46 years was destroyed in the blaze.

"Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing," the couple said in a joint statement given to the PA news agency.

"Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can't be taken away.

"We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this."

TMZ has reported that the home of Nobody Wants This star Adam Brody and his wife, Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl, has also fallen victim to the fire.

Gibson, 69, revealed his Malibu home was destroyed in the fires while he was in Austin to record a podcast interview with Joe Rogan.

“Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” the Mad Max actor told NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports about losing the home he’d lived in for 15 years.

“You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. I had my stuff there, and it’s all like, I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff, because it’s all in cinders.”

Oscar-winning songwriter Diane Warren confirmed she had lost her beach home of 30 years in the wildfire, adding that her animals had survived the ordeal.

Acclaimed actor Anthony Hopkins, 87, lost his four-bedroom $6 million home in the Pacific Palisades area.

Star Wars actor Hamill said his family were "fleeing for our lives" as they evacuated their home, while Once Upon A Time In America star Woods said: "It tests your soul, losing everything at once."

The Hills stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag also confirmed they had lost their home in the blaze.

The pair, who married for the second time in 2009, documented the escalation of the fire on their Snapchat stories with Pratt saying: "I'm watching our house burn down on the security cameras."

This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia, 47, and his heavily pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, evacuated their Malibu home on Tuesday and also watched their house get destroyed through their security cameras.

“You start thinking about all the memories in different parts of the house and what not and then you see your neighbors houses and everything kind of around and your heart just breaks,” Ventimiglia told CBS.

“I think there's a kind of shock moment where you go, ‘Oh, this is real. This is happening.’ And then at a certain point we just turned it off. Like what good is it to continue watching? You know, we kind of accepted the loss.”

The former Gilmore Girls star was filmed walking around the rubble of his home after the fire trying to salvage anything he could. The crib he and his wife - who is due to give birth any day now - had set up for their child was ruined in the blaze.

Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh Sperry’s $7.5 million home was also obliterated.

The couple had bought the five-bedroom property with a movie theatre and gym - described as their “secondary residence” - in April 2023.

Sperry shared a dramatic photo of the blaze on Instagram on Wednesday with a crying emoji and urged evacuees to leave bowls of water on the street for animals who had escaped.

Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles lost her oceanfront Malibu bungalow to the wildfires just days after she celebrated her 71st birthday there.

“It was my favorite place, my sanctuary , my sacred Happy Place . Now it is gone !!” she wrote on Instagram while sharing a video of dolphins surfacing in the water opposite her home.

Jeff Bridges’ Malibu family home burnt down in the Pacific Palisades fire.

The four-bedroom had been in the 75-year-old actor’s family for generations and was inherited by Bridges, his brother, and his sister, TMZ reported.

Actor John Goodman’s $4.6 million Pacific Palisades home was also wiped out in the wildfires.

Photos obtained by DailyMail.com showed the 72-year-old actor’s mansion had been burnt to the ground, with just his blackened backyard pool remaining.

Actors Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg lost their home in the wildfires too, with Greenberg, 46, writing on Instagram on Wednesday: “Family is safe and that's all that matters. Everything else is just stuff. Thanks for checking in.”

He also posted devastating images of what appeared to be their home, penning: “It was all a dream. Thank you to all of the firefighters risking their lives. Stay safe out there.”

Scary Movie star Anna Faris' $5 million eco-friendly home was also decimated in the fires, with aerial photos showing the home burnt down to the ground.

Actress Mandy Moore’s Altadena home that she shares husband Taylor Goldsmith was partially burned down in the Eaton fire.

The 40-year-old actress and singer shared photos of the rubble and revealed some of their home was still remaining.

“We were able to park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss. Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact,” Moore wrote on Instagram.

“We lost Taylor and griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house.”

Moore added that she had a sense of survivor’s guilt as every other house on their street is gone - including the home of her in-laws, which burnt down just six weeks after they welcomed their first child.

The 78-year-old actor and comedian had earlier discussed being trapped in gridlocked traffic while trying to evacuate among thousands of other residents, saying: “The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon. I couldn't see any flames but the smoke was very dark.”

Step Brothers star John C. Reilly's Altadena home was also reduced to rubble. He had shared the house, situated in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, with his wife Alison Dickey and their two children.

Bella Hadid’s childhood home in Malibu burnt down too, with the model sharing a heartbreaking photo of the flames engulfing the home and writing: “Childhood bedroom.”

Her mother Yolanda Hadid, 60, once owned the mansion - known as the Carbon Canyon Estate - which featured in many lavish scenes of Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills.

How I Met Your Mother actress Cobie Smulders home was destroyed in the blaze, despite efforts from firefighters to control the flames.

Smulders, 42, and her husband, Taran Killam, bought the five-bedroom $5.6 million property in 2017 and spent a year renovating it.

Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger's ex wife and former First Lady of California, shared a heart-wrenching video of the charred remains of her neighbourhood after the fires.

Posting photos of the rubble, she wrote: “It is gone. This is an unimaginable loss. I grieve with the rest of Los Angeles as it burns… and even though I’ve found even words to write here, there’s nothing that I could say in this moment to describe this feeling.”

Saint John added: “This is the house I wanted. The house I prayed for. The house I worked in blood, sweat and tears for. The house that I put a key pad instead of a key hole in the front door because I wanted all my family and friends to have a code and use the house whenever they wanted.”
