The esteemed first division of Spanish soccer, La Liga, had two major setbacks in the span of three years between 2018 and 2021. The first one came just after the 2017-18 season wrapped up when Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus. Three years later, his arch-rival Lionel Messi departed Barcelona as a free agent, landing another massive blow to the league’s appeal.
Losing the two best players of the 21st century has undeniably hurt La Liga, as the league is no longer as explosive. However, there are still plenty of brilliant goalscorers in the Spanish top flight, and in the list below, we will check out the ones who have set the standard this season. Continue reading to meet the five players who have scored the most goals in La Liga in 2024-25.
#5 Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid): 6 Goals
In fifth place, we have one of the best players of the generation, Kylian Mbappe. The 25-year-old, who fulfilled his lifelong dream of signing for Real Madrid earlier this year, has scored six goals in 11 La Liga appearances. Three of his goals have come from the penalty spot.
Mbappe’s output has been decent, but he does not look very comfortable playing in Carlo Ancelotti’s system. Unfortunately for Mbappe, Real Madrid fans are notoriously impatient. So, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner must figure out a way to be lethal as a center-forward as soon as possible to avoid criticism.
#4 Raphinha (Barcelona): 7 Goals
New Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has turned Raphinha into one of the best players in La Liga. Thriving in the German’s free-flowing system, Raphinha has scored seven goals in 13 matches. The Brazilian winger has also provided six assists — the second-highest in the division after teammate Lamine Yamal (7 assists).
Raphinha delivered a masterclass in attacking play in the Matchday 4 clash with Real Valladolid on August 31. He scored a hat-trick and provided an assist to propel Barcelona to an emphatic 7-0 victory.
#3 Ayoze Perez (Villarreal): 7 Goals
Villarreal ace Ayoze Perez has clinched third place in the rankings, having scored seven goals in just nine La Liga appearances (5 starts). Perez has been incredibly efficient in front of goal, netting his goals from just 15 shots.
Perez, who has represented Newcastle United and Leicester City in the Premier League, played his best game in the Matchday 7 clash with Espanyol. He scored an excellent brace to propel the Yellow Submarine to a 2-1 victory over the Catalan side.
#2 Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid): 8 Goals
Real Madrid ace Vinicius Jr. has been firing on all cylinders in La Liga this season. The Brazilian, who shockingly missed out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or award, has scored eight goals in 12 Spanish top-flight matches. Two of his goals have come from the penalty spot. The jet-heeled left-winger has also showcased his creativity in the 2024-25 La Liga season, providing four assists.
Vinicius Jr. delivered his finest performance in La Liga on Saturday, November 9. He scored a jaw-dropping hat-trick to propel Real Madrid to a morale-boosting 4-0 victory over CA Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
#1 Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona): 14 Goals
Comfortably clear of the competition, Robert Lewandowski has emerged as the outright frontrunner for the Pichichi Trophy this season. The former Bayern Munich striker has been playing his best game under Hansi Flick, scoring a smashing 14 times in 13 La Liga matches so far. Just two of his goals have come from the spot. Lewandowski has also been pretty generous in the final third, setting up his teammates on two occasions.
Lewandowski, 36, delivered his best performance of the season against Alaves on Matchday 9. He scored a hat-trick as the La Liga leaders cruised to a 3-0 victory over Alaves.
