Deputies from the LA County Sheriff’s Department have made nearly 40 arrests in the Los Angeles County neighborhoods affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires, Sheriff Robert G. Luna announced on Tuesday. The arrests include 33 in the Eaton Fire area and six in the Palisades area.
The sheriff emphasized that the numbers provided do not account for arrests made by other law enforcement agencies such as the Los Angeles Police Department.
Of the recent overnight arrests, Luna stated, “We have nine curfew arrests and two for drone incidences. Please do not fly drones in these impacted areas. Eleven arrests were made for burglary in the Eaton area, while six arrests were made in the Palisades area – three for curfew violations and three for burglary.”
Curfew restrictions in areas under evacuation orders are in place from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Luna confirmed. In addition to curfew violations and weapon possession, law enforcement officers are also vigilant against white-collar crimes.
“We’re not just targeting burglars and looters on the streets. We are also focusing on individuals involved in any form of scam,” Luna warned. “If you are attempting to exploit the victims of these fires, we urge you to cease your activities. Victims of such scams are encouraged to report them to us immediately.”
