As rescue operations continue in the areas affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires, LA County Sheriff Robert Luna has provided an update on the ongoing efforts. According to Sheriff Luna, search teams have encountered areas that are currently on hold due to the possibility of deceased victims being present.
Sheriff Luna emphasized the complexity of the situation, stating, 'We still have a variety of work and structures to go through, but even as we’re going through some of these grids, there are areas that we are holding, because we believe there may be deceased victims there.'
He further explained the need for caution and thoroughness in processing these areas, highlighting the importance of utilizing the right resources at the right time. Sheriff Luna urged patience from the community, acknowledging the desire to return to normalcy but emphasizing the significance of handling the scenes with care and respect.
'We have to hold for the right time, and the right resources, to process the scene correctly, and that’s going to take a little while. Please be patient with us,' Sheriff Luna stated. 'We know people want to get back into their neighborhoods, but we’re talking about people who have passed.'
The sheriff's message underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for a methodical approach to ensure that all necessary steps are taken in the search and recovery process. As rescue operations continue, the community is urged to support the efforts of the search teams and to remain understanding of the challenges they face in these difficult circumstances.
