L’Jarius Sneed says Chiefs loss to Bengals in 2021 playoffs still haunts him

The Kansas City Chiefs will meet the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game for the second year in a row on Sunday. This time around, they’re hoping to achieve better results than last season in a highly anticipated grudge match.

Their heartbreaking loss to Cincinnati last season left a bitter taste in the mouths of Chiefs fans everywhere. With their latest season and another trip to the Super Bowl on the line, Kansas City seems particularly motivated to best Joe Burrow and the Bengals in this one. They have a chance to earn redemption where they failed a season ago.

Veteran cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was asked if he has put last year’s loss behind him ahead of the matchup, and he made it clear that for him and some of his teammates, their feelings on the matter weren’t so simple.

“It’s still with me,” Sneed said. “I guarantee it’s still with a couple more guys as well. We’ll come in with a chip on our shoulder and try to not fall short.”

This simple approach should pay dividends for Kansas City as they seek to clinch their third Super Bowl berth in four seasons. For the Chiefs, this game clearly has more at stake than meets the eye, and Sneed’s comments elucidate their underdog mentality.
