Kyril Louis-Dreyfus' message to Sunderland fans following promotion at Wembley

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has posted a heartfelt thankyou message on social media to Sunderland fans in the wake of the club's promotion to the Championship at Wembley. The Black Cats won the League One play-off final at the weekend, with Alex Neil's side defeating Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 at the national stadium to secure a return to the second tier following a four-year absence.

It was the climax of Louis-Dreyfus' first full season as chairman and largest shareholder on Wearside, following his arrival at the club in February last year. The Swiss was at Wembley with his family to see Sunderland win in front of more than 46,000 fans from the North East.

And he has now taken to his official Instagram account to post a picture of himself and twin brother Maurice with the League One play-off trophy, along with an end-of-season message to the club's supporters, players, and staff. Louis-Dreyfus' message read: "An unforgettable win at Wembley Stadium and our promotion back to the Championship - what a way to end our first season.

"I would like to thank all our fans around the world that have continued to support our club throughout what has been a difficult few years. Saturday was for you and together we achieved our goal.

"I commend our players and first-team staff for a great season and also thank all of our employees, who work so hard every day and give everything for the club. Without you, this success would not have been possible."

Sunderland will now spend the summer preparing for life back in the Championship, with the players due to return for pre-season training in around a month's time ahead of the opening game of the campaign on July 30.
