Kyogo in Celtic lofty goal target as Japanese star eyes top scorer prize with strike rate promise

Kyogo insists every goal he scores for Celtic pleases him but that he does have a rough target in mind for the season.

The Japanese hitman is enjoying a purple patch in front of goal for Ange Postecoglou's side and is the number one choice attacker for the league leaders after notching up 15 goals in this campaign. The 27-year-old has only been matched so far by Hearts' forward Lawrence Shankland with a crucial equaliser scored as a first Old Firm derby goal on Monday.

And Kyogo admits he has taken on the full mantra of Postecoglou's style but that a rough target of 20 goals would prove pleasing for him in a Celtic shirt. The speedy forward, however, believes it is the players around him that allow for a goal glut as he gleamed over his cinch Premiership Player of the Month award.

He said: "I am really grateful to all my team-mates and the fans for their support in helping me to receive this award. I want to score as many goals as possible and lead the team to win games and make my team and the fans happy.

“I want to concentrate on the game in front of me and work hard in training for it so that I can show my best on the pitch. That is the most important thing.

"I try not to think about the number of goals I score, it's more important to play step by step. I guess the next target for me will be 20 goals but the more important thing is that my team-mates provide me with a lot of good passes and chances so I can finish their good work. If I do that, I will contribute to our team.

"Every goal is important to me. Especially a goal that can lead to a victory to the team or help the team get a good result. Any goal I score for Celtic makes me happy. I want to make more defensive contributions as well as in attack. I believe that will help me contribute more in general to the way the team plays."
