Kyogo has Barry Ferguson on Rangers red alert as he delivers devilish Celtic one liner

Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has joked Celtic talisman Kyogo's best role would be in the stands at Hampden watching Sunday's Scottish Cup semi final blockbuster.

But the 27-year-old is in the mix for a prominent role after he made his return from injury in last weekend's 7-0 romp over St Johnstone.

Ferguson is a major admirer of the Celtic striker and reckons Gio van Bronckhorst's side face an extra challenge as the Japan international bids to make a telling impact.

Ange Postecoglou isn't banking on Kyogo to last the whole game but Ferguson expects him to get the nod from the start with Giorgos Giakoumakis sidelined.

Speaking on Go Radio, he said: "In terms of a Rangers point of view, it is a worry, I think he is a top player, he causes teams so many problems.

"Not just with the quality he has got on the ball, it's off the ball, his movement is exceptional.

"It looks to me the way Postecoglou is talking that he'll be in from the start and that's one player Rangers need to keep an eye because he is a real danger.

Ferguson has also been left impressed by compatriot Daizen Maeda's frenzied work-rate in the final third of the pitch in recent matches.

And he couldn't resist a one-liner when asked if he'd prefer Kyogo to start or be left in reserve as an impact sub.

He joked: "I'd prefer if he wasn't in the 18.

"I rate him so highly, I didn't know anything about him, probably like many people, he has impressed me so much.

"The first half of the season, just his goalscoring, he does the dirty side brilliantly, his movement inside the box is exceptional as well.

"His tracking back, there were times he was running past the midfielders to try and win the ball back, in terms of what Maeda does, brilliant work ethic.

"It's a concern, but you know you are going to be coming up against quality, Celtic have got quality players, confidence is sky high.

"He is one player if he starts, you need to keep an eye on him."
