Kyogo gives Celtic fans a glimpse inside dressing room mindset as top scorer delivers heartfelt future vow

Kyogo Furuhashi has told Celtic fans that he wants to stay at Parkhead for as long as he can.

The Japanese striker who will be crowned SFWA Player of the Year to add to his PFA Scotland award on Sunday night. Kyogo has hit 33 goals this season and helped take Celtic to the brink of a Treble. The 28-year-old still has two years left on his current Hoops contract but is bound to attract attention from potential suitors this summer.

However, Kyogo insists he’s happy in Glasgow and has no plans to leave. Asked if he’d like to stay at Celtic beyond 2025, the former Vissel Kobe frontman was quick to assure the Hoops support. He said: “Definitely. All the players here want to stay at Celtic for as long as they can and I’m one of them. At the same time, I cannot think too much about the future right now. You have to focus on a daily basis on the training pitch. But hopefully I can stay here and give everything I have.”

Kyogo has been rewarded for his brilliant form with a recall to the Japan squad for next month’s Kirin Cup matches against El Salvador and Peru. He’ll be joined by Celtic pal Reo Hatate after the duo were left out of the Blue Samurai’s World Cup squad while Daizen Maeda made the cut.

The Premiership top scorer is delighted to be involved again and admits he’s desperate to impress national team coach Hajime Moriyasu. Kyogo said: “I appreciate the coach calling me up to the squad.

“I have to understand now what they’re asking me to do within the team. After all, I want to perform and pay back the support of everyone. I want to play well and impress, using my experience.

“No matter Japan’s style, I’m a striker so I have to score goals. I want to do that for Japan. Of course, international football improves you as a player. It’s also a great opportunity for me to be an idol to the children in Japan.

“To play for Celtic is great but this is representing the national team. I just want to express what I have as a player and impress all the people.”
