Kyogo Furuhashi sets Celtic targets as he does 'extra' to overcome personal challenges

Kyogo Furuhashi scored 20 goals in his debut campaign with Celtic but he wants to be even BETTER this season.

Ange Postecoglou snapped up the Japan international last summer from Vissel Kobe and he quickly settled into life at Parkhead and instantly became a fans' favourite. Injuries played a part in his debut season, but he still managed to grab 12 goals in the Premiership and eight in other competitions. Kyogo finished one league strike behind team-mate Giorgos Giakoumakis and Regan Charles-Cook at the top of the scoring charts.

Celtic are back in pre-season training with the task of defending their Premiership crown they won from rivals Rangers and making an impact in the Champions League this season the main targets. The Japan attacker is bound to play a major role in any success that comes the way of the Hoops this season and he has set himself the personal target of at least 20 goals once again and to finish top goalscorer in the Premiership this time around.

Celtic also won the Premier Sports Cup last term while losing out to Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-finals and they will be determined to land domestic cup silverware alongside back-to-back league triumphs.

Speaking ahead of the new campaign, Kyogo said: "We have a good team and good fans and that’s why we can do better than last season.

“Personally, I’d like to get good numbers. I want to score a minimum of 20 goals this season. It would be nice to be the top scorer in the league.

“We have good players, we are working hard and pushing and stimulating each other on the pitch. There is still a lot to improve and that is why we are training hard.

“I also want to get to a good fitness level and to contribute to the team. The coaches prepare us well with a good training programme.

“I still have personal challenges to overcome — and that is why I am doing extra.”
