Kym Marsh shares exciting trip with daughter after announcing BBC Strictly Come Dancing news

Kym Marsh has revealed she headed on an exciting trip with her daughter after she was announced as one of this year's contestants on Strictly Come Dancing. The former Coronation Street star was the second celebrity to be announced for the BBC One dance contest earlier this month.

She was on holiday with her family at the time of the announcement, which was made on BBC Breakfast on August 4 just after fellow former Corrie star Will Mellor was revealed to be the first famous face taking to the ballroom this autumn.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast via video call from holiday, Kym, 46, told hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt: "I am really looking forward to it. I am nervous – but I am really looking forward to it."

But as well as her own career, actress and former Hear'Say singer Kym had some exciting news to share about her daughter, Emilie Cunliffe. She took to Instagram on Saturday to share that she had been in the States with her second born as she continues to embark on her own music career.

Posing in a music studio, Kym penned: "Had the best time with my @emilieecunliffe.x @emiliecunliffemusic @bri26 Nige and @mikeyhoz in the US!!! Exciting times ahead! Watch this space!!!"

It is not clear when the trip was but Kym's friends and fans were soon showing their support. @gertie101 commented: "Looking forward to hearing this. Your gonna smash strictly and look amazing." @chez876 shared: "So happy for Em." @ iamsarahannett said: "Sending loads of love & luck for Strictly!!!! You will absolutely smash it."

Back in March Kym was ever the proud mum as she shared some fresh news on daughter Emilie's career. The BBC Morning Live host took to her Instagram Story with a mum and daughter selfie as she and Emily headed off for an 'exciting' day. As the pair grinned for the camera in the back of the car in matching black glasses, Kym said: "Exciting day ahead for my gal @emilycuncliffemusic. Can't wait to watch you on your journey."

It came weeks after singer and actress Kym implored her followers to give her daughter's Instagram page a follow as she made steps towards launching her music career. She said at the time: "Hey guys give my girls new music page a follow @emiliecunliffemusic she’s so bloody talented. #proudmomma."

Kym has recently been announced for Strictly 2022 (PA)

The 24-year-old, who got engaged to long-term partner Mikey Hoszowsky back in November during a joint 24th birthday party with her sister-in-law to-be Courtney Leach, has since been posting little clips of her singing to tracks including Adele and Elvis and has been racking up the compliments.

But all eyes do look set to be on her mum as she takes to the ballroom floor this year in Strictly. In a statement Kym said of her new challenge: "I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out. I’m so delighted that this year they have! I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!"

And with Kym co-hosting Morning Live alongside Gethin Jones, who competed on Strictly in 2007, she was asked if he had given her any advice. She replied: "I always joke with him. I always go: ‘Were you on Strictly? Because you never mention it’. He loves it." She did, however, admit she had not told him she had signed up, adding: "I will probably get a message later on saying, 'You never told me!'"
