Kym Marsh's emotional tribute to brave Pride of Birmingham winners

TV star Kym Marsh promises a fantastic time as she helps celebrate extraordinary people, including a hero police officer who tackled a knifeman and a courageous child who suffered severe burns as a baby.

Presenter Kym is again hosting the Birmingham Live Pride of Birmingham Awards.

She said: “I know it’s going to be a fantastic night. But what makes it truly special is the winners. They are so inspirational, their stories really touch your heart and I can’t wait to meet them.”

Winners include Child of Courage, Elizabeth Soffe, eight, who suffered severe burns and lost most of her fingers in a fire when she was just six months old.

The youngster spent weeks in a coma and has undergone more than 70 operations to date.

But last year, to say thank you to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital medics who saved her life, she ran a mile a day for 26 days, raising £215,000.

The money has helped buy state-of-the-art equipment to treat other burns victims. Her dad Liam, 42, says: “She is an unbelievably enthusiastic child.

She never complains, she just gets on and does it, always has a smile on her face, it is unbelievable.”

Other winners include Brave mum Lynne Baird, 65, who gets the Special Recognition Award.

She set up the Daniel Baird Foundation in memory of her murdered son, campaigning for bleeding control packs.

Also recognised is PC Mat Evans, 42, of West Midlands Police, who while off-duty in London tackled a knifeman.
