Kym Marsh has spoken of how her husband will support her on the forthcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing as the couple prepares to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. The former Coronation Street star tied the knot with partner Scott Ratcliff at the Royal Memorial Chapel at Sandhurst in October 2021.
Kym, 46, and Scott, 34, married in the intimate ceremony four months after getting engaged on Kym's 45th birthday. The Morning Live presenter was walked down the aisle by her dad, Dave, before the couple said 'I do' in front of family and friends in the stunning military ceremony.
The couple began dating back in 2018 after being introduced by their mutual friend Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully in Corrie. And due to Antony's special role in their relationship, he got an important role on the day too as Master of Ceremonies.
And Kym says hubby Scott will be joining her every weekend in London when she is due to dance in the hit BBC One dance contest. The actress and singer will make her dancing debut next Friday (September 23) when the launch show airs after being postponed from Saturday night.
She is one of 15 celebrities taking to the ballroom with those she'll be up again including fellow former Corrie star Will Mellor, EastEnders actor James Bye, Bros legend Matt Goss, and Countryfile host Helen Skelton.
"He might not be at every show because there’ll be a lot of people wanting to come," the mum-of-three said of Scott to the Mirror. "But he’ll be with me every weekend as that’s when we see each other. He lives and works in the barracks during the week so our weekends will now be here. It’ll be nice for him to not make the journey all the way to the north."
Kym was the second celebrity to be announced in the line-up for Strictly 2022. In a statement Kym, 46, said: "I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out. I’m so delighted that this year they have! I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!"
Kym is well known for her role of Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, for which she won ‘Best Newcomer’ at both the National Television Awards and British Soap Awards. She joined the Salford-based soap in 2006 and announced in 2019 that she'd be leaving after 13 years in the role.
But her career, of course, started years before having had a successful music career, both in the band Hear’Say, which she won a place in after appearing on the show Popstars , and as a solo artist. More recently, Kym played the notorious Alex in the touring theatre production of Fatal Attraction and is currently one of the presenters of BBC One’s Morning Live.
And Kym has already been forced to hit back at 'fix' claims after her dance experience with Hear'Say was mentioned by one of the show's very own judges. In an interview with Best magazine, Craig Revel Horwood gave his opinions on this year's celebrity contestants.
"Kym Marsh has danced before and I think she'll fit in well," he said. But speaking to Great British Life, Kym admitted: "I loved performing from a really young age. I was at dance school from the age of four but my parents didn’t realise I could sing until I was 10 years old."
She also said that Popstar producers had specifically asked that auditionees had to be able to "sing and dance". But hitting back at criticism about her dance experience earlier this month, Kym told new! magazine: "We're talking 20 years ago faffing about on stage in Hear'Say.
"It's a whole different thing, and even if that did count as experience in dance, this is ballroom." Kym added: "I've got all the posture and grace of a Quaver."
