Kylian Mbappe transfer rumours continue as Manchester United 'join' Liverpool as 'potential destination'

Liverpool move a day closer to the beginning of the Premier League season as the players return for their first day of pre-season today.

The Reds are looking to have a much-improved campaign following their disappointing showing last time out. Jurgen Klopp has wasted no time bolstering his squad after the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

With the ongoing speculation surrounding Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, Liverpool remain one of the clubs tentatively linked the French star. However, astronomical figures continue to be floating around which hasn't deterred murmurs of an Anfield move.

Another midfield addition is being weighed up on Merseyside ahead of an important campaign across all competitions for the German head coach. Here is a round-up of all the latest rumours surrounding the Reds.

Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid remain the front runners to sign the World Cup Golden Boot-winner Kylian Mbappe.

Liverpool have been previously linked with the France international's services with reports suggesting a sum in excess of £200m could be paid by the Reds for the PSG star.

In a new report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, they claim that Manchester United could also pose a threat to Los Blancos for the striker.

At Old Trafford, takeover talks continue with Qatari investors looking to claim the club from the Glazer family. Mundo Deportivo have claimed that if Jassim Al-Thani, who is supposedly one of the interested buyers in the Red Devils, follows through with the purchase it would make United the only Premier League club he can sign for.

Their report roughly translates to: "Despite the fact that initially the Parisian dome was reluctant to sell it to the white team for having 'touched' its star the past two summers, now the situation is very different.

"And it is that the Qatari sheikh Jassim Al-Thani has set himself the objective of buying one hundred percent of the shares of Manchester United and, if he succeeds, it would fall like a stone if Mbappé ended up in the other team that has pressed the most to take over his services, Liverpool.

"Historical rival of the 'red devils', those from Anfield are candidates for everything and with the crack they would be even more so. In fact, the possible Qatari landing at Old Trafford would stop the sale of Mbappé to any other club in the Premier."

Romeo Lavia

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported that Romeo Lavia has held talks with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Southampton midfielder is a player of interest to the Reds as they look to make their third signing of the summer. Plettenberg claims that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the 19-year-old.

However, London clubs - Chelsea and Arsenal - pose a threat to Liverpool's ambitions of landing the former Anderlecht academy prospect.

Barcelona were also said to be in the hunt but have been priced out of the running. It has been suggested that the Saints have slapped a fee in the region of £50m on the midfielder.

Levi Colwill

Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that there are foundations to the rumours that Liverpool are interested in Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

The 20-year-old impressed in his first season in the Premier League after arriving at Brighton & Hove Albion on loan. Speculation surrounds the defender's future as he looks for first-team assurances, but it remains to be seen whether that will be at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino.

Both Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are in their 30s with Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez left as potential options at the back. This could mean the defensive department is next to be targeted following the importance on reinforcing midfield this summer.

And speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones believes it's now "increasingly likely" that the Reds are targeting a central defender.

"There are rumours about Liverpool holding interest in Colwill and I do actually think there is some foundation to that rumour, I’ve heard whispers of it too. It seems increasingly likely Liverpool do look to sign a centre-back as well," he said.

"The thing is, I really do not think Chelsea will sell Colwill. He’s exactly the type of player they need for the new era. If he was at another club, they would probably be trying to sign him.

"Brighton are obviously keen too but I reckon we could get to the first game of the new season and Colwill is in Chelsea’s starting eleven. He’s so highly thought of by anyone that works with him."

The ECHO have reported since March that Liverpool are admirers of the England U21 international. Paul Gorst reiterated this stance this week.

"Levi Colwill is widely appreciated but the England Under-21 international is currently a Chelsea player, making it potentially prohibitive to conclude a deal with a Premier League rival, particularly with Brighton keen to make their loaning of the defender a more permanent arrangement this summer," he wrote.

"There are several hoops to jump through on that front and the Reds generally prefer not to get into any drawn-out sagas if there are alternatives."
