Kylian Mbappe insists he will not waste energy by focusing on Emi Martinez’s behaviour following the World Cup final.
The France striker scored a record-equalling hat-trick in a dramatic final at Lusail Stadium but was unable to lead his country to a second consecutive World Cup.
Argentina won on penalties, with Martinez saving from Kingsley Coman as Argentina won their third title and their first since the days of Diego Maradona in 1986.
Martinez then called for a mock minute’s silence for Mbappe in wild dressing room celebrations before holding up a baby doll with the Paris Saint-Germain forward’s face on during the team’s victory parade in Buenos Aries.
Former Les Bleus international Adil Rami branded the Aston Villa goalkeeper as “the most hated man in France” while the French FA had lodged a formal complaint about “abnormal” taunting of Mbappe, who scored a late penalty as PSG beat Strasbourg on Wednesday night.
After the game, Mbappe said: “The celebrations, they’re not my problem.
“I don’t waste any energy on such futile things. What’s important for me is to give the best of myself for my club, and we’re looking forward for Leo (Messi) to turn to continue scoring and winning matches.”
